NEW DELHI: Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Deputy CM of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, has taken a strong stance on the Parbhani lynching incident in Maharashtra, which resulted in the death of a Sikh minor boy and severe injuries to two others from the community.

In a statement, Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that financial assistance had been provided to the families of the victims involved in the Maharashtra lynching case. Emphasizing their commitment as representatives of the Sikh community, he expressed their dedication to supporting their fellow community members in times of distress. He further assured that their state unit, led by S Gurinder Singh Bawa, is in regular contact with the victim families and pledged to ensure that the guilty parties receive exemplary punishment.

Expressing his deep concern, Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted earlier, “The whole Sikh community and all right-thinking people in the country are shocked by the inhuman and brutal lynching of three Sikh youth in Maharashtra. This is a heinous and unforgivable outrage against the already aggrieved Sikh community. Chief Minister Shinde must ensure exemplary punishment for the guilty.”

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also issued a statement, with SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami condemning the mob lynching incident. Dhami called the crime a blot on humanity and demanded that the culprits be identified, arrested, and given strict and exemplary punishment. “SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly condemned mob lynching of minor Sikh Kirpal Singh (14), who was killed at Ukhlad village in Parbhani district of Maharashtra. Two more minor Sikhs, Avtar Singh (16) & Arun Singh (15) have been seriously hurt in this incident. This heinous crime is a blot on humanity, whose culprits deserve strict punishment. He said the police should identify & arrest all the culprits & ensure that strict & exemplary punishment is given to them.”

The incident took place in Parbhani district when three minors from a nomadic Sikh community arrived at a village on a bike. Suspicions arose due to a recent goat theft in the area, leading to a violent mob attack that resulted in the death of one minor and injuries to the other two. The local police have already arrested several individuals and charged them with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
