NEW DELHI: In a proactive move addressing the Love Jihad murder case in Delhi, the state government has promised to hire a top lawyer to handle the proceedings, ensuring the harshest punishment for the accused Sahil Khan, while also pledging Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family, announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a tweet.

“In a firm commitment to Sakshi’s family, the Delhi govt will be hiring the best legal minds to ensure the culprit faces severe consequences. We stand firmly with them during this trying time and will provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh,” read Kejriwal’s tweet.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Atishi Marlena tweeted that she would be meeting the victim, Sakshi’s family members at 3 pm on Tuesday.

The Delhi love jihad murder incident sent shockwaves throughout the national capital as a disturbing video capturing the heinous crime surfaced on social media. The footage depicted Sahil Khan, the accused, brutally stabbing the girl before striking her with a concrete brick until she fell unconscious. Acting swiftly, the Delhi Police apprehended Sahil Khan from the outskirts of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

In the wake of the tragedy, the parents of 16-year-old Sakshi have demanded the death penalty for Sahil Khan. Sakshi’s mother, speaking to the media, revealed that the family was unaware of her daughter’s relationship with Sahil, who worked as a refrigerator and AC mechanic in the Shahbad Dairy area of outer northwest Delhi.

Describing Sakshi as a cheerful and independent girl with dreams of becoming a lawyer, her mother shared that she had recently passed her class 10 exams and was temporarily staying with a friend whose husband was incarcerated. During her stay, Sakshi assisted her friend in taking care of her children.

On the fateful day of the incident, Sakshi’s mother had spoken to her over the phone. However, a few hours later, Sahil, with whom Sakshi had a disagreement a few days earlier, stabbed her in the chest and face before crushing her with a boulder.

The postmortem examination revealed more than 30 injury marks on Sakshi’s body, including 24 stab wounds. Sahil, originally from Bulandshahr, had been residing in Delhi with his parents for the past two years while working as an AC and refrigerator mechanic. Apart from his profession, Sahil indulged in creating Instagram videos as a hobby.

CCTV footage released by the authorities depicted the horrifying act committed by Sahil. With alarming force, he mercilessly stabbed the defenceless girl, specifically targeting her chest, throat, and head until she lost consciousness. Without a trace of remorse, Sahil then brutally assaulted her head multiple times with a large cement brick before fleeing the scene.
