Bihar Dy CM and party leader Tejashwi Yadav says he is not aware of it
NEW DELHI: The inauguration of the new Parliament building on Monday was met with a flurry of reactions, both positive and negative.
However, one tweet from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party’s official Twitter handle quickly grabbed headlines and sparked a major controversy.
The tweet featured a picture of the new Parliament Building alongside a picture of a coffin. The caption read, “What is this?”
The tweet was immediately condemned by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused the RJD of disrespecting the Indian Parliament. BJP MP Sushil Modi said that the tweet was “shameful” and that the RJD should be tried for treason.

BJP MP Sushil Modi said, “RJD on its Twitter handle has put a picture of the new Parliament House on one side and a picture of the coffin on the other. The first picture is the future of India and the second picture is the future of RJD.”
“Only RJD and JDU (Janata Dal-United, which is in coalition with RJD and other parties in Bihar) can do such a shameful act on India’s pride day,” BJP MP said, adding, “Such people should be tried for treason.”
When asked about the tweet, senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav feigned ignorance. “I have not seen it yet. There is no information about this. We will find out,” Yadav, who is also the Bihar Dy CM, said.
The inauguration of the new Parliament building has been mired in controversy as 19 opposition parties, including RJD, skipped the ceremony on Sunday. While the political parties first suggested that they were protesting against sidelining the President of India from the event. However, later on, they all suggest different reasons, mostly targeting the central government, for boycotting the landmark event.
Earlier on Saturday, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also skipped the NITI Aayog meeting, chaired by PM Modi, citing his prior engagement in the state. Bihar is one of the 10 states that skipped the key governing council meeting that was held in New Delhi.
