BJP Delegation From Punjab Meets PM Modi, Seeks Reopening Of Kartarpur Corridor By Gurpurab

NEW DELHI: A BJP delegation on Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and requested to reopen Kartarpur corridor on occasion ‘Guru Nanak Jayanti’ (Gurpurab) on November 19.

The BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to the prime minister requesting for the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, which has been closed since March, 2020 due to Covid-related restrictions.

The corridor allows a visa-free border crossing for pilgrims from India visiting the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan. ALSO READ: Tight-Lipped On Choice Of Party, Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood’s Sister To Contest Punjab Elections

The corridor links the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, the final resting place of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district in India.

The delegation included BJP national vice-president Saudhan Singh, national general secretaries Tarun Chugh and Dushyant Gautam, Punjab unit president Ashwani Sharma, national spokesperson Sardar RP Singh and youth wing national secretary Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and other leaders from Punjab.

“We requested Prime Minister Modi to reopen the Kartarpur corridor before Gurpurab. We are hopeful that it will be opened soon,” Sharma said.

Gurpurab, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, will be celebrated on November 19 this year.
