The controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s alleged Visiting Fellow status at the Cambridge Judge Business School has escalated, with the BJP attacking Congress and Rahul Gandhi after an expose by The New Indian. On Friday, Cambridge University confirmed that Rahul Gandhi is not a Visiting Fellow at the Cambridge Judge Business School, as the Congress party had claimed in previous tweets. Instead, he holds the title of Honorary non-visiting Fellow.

The BJP has seized on this news, with IT head Amit Malviya asking why the Congress is so desperate to prove that Rahul is well-read. “Priyanka Vadra lied about Rahul Gandhi having a Harvard degree. Congress said that Rahul Gandhi was a “visiting fellow” at Cambridge. Now Cambridge University refutes the bogus claim. What is this desperation in the Congress to prove that he is ready?,” tweeted BJP IT-cell chief Amit Malviya.

Shehzad Poonawala, BJP National spokesperson, took a similar line of attack, calling Rahul Gandhi an unqualified MP and accusing the Congress of garnishing his credentials. “First disqualified for anti-OBC remarks & now pumping up credentials that don’t exist? Not the first time lies have been peddled by the ecosystem & Congress – They did the same on Rafale, on SC about Chowkidar Chor hai; several other issues !” tweeted BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla

Meanwhile, Congress has remained tight-lipped on the controversy with communication in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh dismissing these revelations about Congress’ Cambridge fellowship as a non-issue.

The New Indian’s expose contesting Rahul’s status as a visiting fellow at Cambridge University, has brought to light that he actually holds the title of Honorary non-visiting Fellow at the Cambridge Judge Business School. This has raised eyebrows on his credentials, particularly his expertise in finance. Rahul is a Fellow (finance) at Cambridge’s Judge Business School. However, he lacks the expertise to qualify as a Fellow as per information sought by a UK-based source under the Freedom of information Act 2000 UK.

These revelations come at a time when Gujarat High Court set aside a 2016 order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) directing Gujarat University to provide the details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s M.A. degree to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The bench also imposed a cost of Rs. 25,000/- upon the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal to be deposited with the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority within 4 weeks.
