DMK to launch a two-month membership drive from April 3 to June 3; Party targets one crore new members
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is all set to spread its wings as the party gears up to celebrate the birth centenary of former Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi.
Sources in the party told The New Indian that DMK will launch a mega membership drive soon. The membership drive is named Udanpirapugalai Inaivom which signifies brotherhood, with the message ‘let us unite as siblings’.
“CM MK Stalin is expected to launch the drive on April 3. The membership drive will continue till June 3. It will aim to inculcate brotherhood. It also targets to induct one crore new members,” party sources state.
Incidentally, June 3 is also the 100th birth anniversary of the late CM M Karunanidhi. “The date to end the membership drive was consciously chosen to mark the 100th birth anniversary of former CM Karunanidhi,” the sources said.
Meanwhile, in the recent budget session, the Tamil Nadu government announced a scheme of ₹1000 per month for women who are the head of their families.
The scheme would begin on September 15 after it was launched by the Chief minister. The scheme will cost the state exchequer ₹7000 crores.
At the national level, in the ongoing budget session, DMK has maintained its stand as an opposition and has raised its voice demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Adani issue along with all other opposition.
DMK floor leader Tiruchi Siva tabled the suspension of Business Notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 on March 21.
The leader further asked for a discussion on why the government failed to form a JPC to investigate the ‘corporate fraud in the country’.
