The self proclaimed champion of the Khalistan cause, Amritpal Singh, threatened to shoot Granthi Ajane Ranjit Singh of Gurdwara Singh Sabha village Nangal Ambia Khurd Arsa and his son Jatinder Singh before taking his son’s clothes to disguise himself from the police.

Amritpal Singh changed his getup, ditched expensive cars and diverted police before escaping in a two-wheeler as Punjab Police were hot on the heels of the pro Khalistani ultra.

The minute details of his escape have now come to light as a First Information Report (FIR), a copy of which is in the possession of The New Indian, filed in Jalandhar district, showed that Amritpal Singh threatened to kill Granthi Ranjit Singh before taking away his clothes.

The FIR was filed under sections 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 148 (Rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence commit¬ted in prosecution of common object) of Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 (Punishment for using arms) of Arms Act, 1959.

“We have registered a case for extortion against Amritpal,” Swarandeep Singh, Jalandhar Rural SSP said.

In the FIR, Ranjit Singh stated, “On March 18, at around 1.15 pm, I was present in Gurdwara Sahib along with my family when a white Brezza car (PB-02-EE-3343) stopped in front of Gurdwara Sahib. Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, along with four other youths, came inside the Gurdwara Sahib while carrying weapons.”

“One of the young men, who came with Amritpal Singh, said that we need your son’s clothes because the police are behind us,” Granthi said in the FIR.

“They said that they had to change their disguise and leave here. When I refused to give clothes, Amritpal Singh put a pistol to my ear and said that if you don’t give us clothes, he will shoot me and my family,” the FIR stated.

“They forcibly took away the clothes of my boy. They removed their robes and wore my boy’s clothes. Before leaving, Amritpal Singh once again threatened Granthi not to tell the police about the incident,” Granthi said in his FIR.

“While they were leaving the Gurdwara Sahib, four young men came with two motorcycles. One of the bikes is a Bullet, and I don’t know what brand another motorcycle is,” the FIR stated.
