Former Indian cricket star meets recuperating Indian wicketkeeper batter, says ‘this champion is going to rise again’
It was a meeting of champions as former Indian cricket star Yuvraj Singh met wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who is recuperating from a major car accident.
Singh shared a heartwarming picture of Pant that stirred the internet, with many pointing out how Singh could be the perfect inspiration for Pant.
Singh had survived cancer to make a remarkable comeback into the game years ago. Pant will be hoping to do the same, as he survived a potentially fatal crash last year.
Pant was on his way to Roorkee to meet his relatives. However, he fell asleep while driving and hit the divider at high speed. His car flipped multiple times before catching fire.
Fortunately, with the help of Good Samaritans, including the Haryana Roadways bus driver and conductor, the southpaw managed to survive.
Pant had to undergo surgery for the injuries he had sustained in the crash. He is now recovering from the crash.
Singh took to social media to express his confidence that Pant will also make a successful comeback to the team.
“On to baby steps!!! This champion is going to rise again. Was good catching up and having a laugh what a guy positive and funny always !! More power to you,” Singh tweeted.
Pant too has kept his legions of fans updated about his recovery process through regular updates on social media. Recently, he shared a video of himself walking in a pool.
Pant, a key member of the Indian Test team, missed the key series against the Australians. He might also miss the World Test Championship final that is scheduled in July. Pant could also miss the one-day World Cup that is scheduled to be held later this year.
Fans will also miss Pant’s fireworks in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). In Pant’s absence, Australian opener David Warner will lead the Delhi Capitals for the season.
Expressing regret at Pant’s absence, Warner acknowledged that DC will miss the highly talented Indian wicketkeeper.
“Rishabh has been a terrific leader for the Delhi Capitals, and we’re all going to miss having him around. I would like to thank the management for the faith and trust they’ve always shown in me,” Warner said in a statement.
