Kumar complained that a wide range of seven government departments under his charge does not fit on his nameplate.
As the famous saying goes, success comes with certain challenges. For dynamic Bihar bureaucrat Rahul Kumar, it has presented a unique problem which also essentially sums up why he is a go-to man for CM Nitish Kumar.
Kumar, a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Office (IAS) of the Bihar cadre, is currently touring the state as part of chief minister Nitish Kumar’s ‘Samadhan Yatra’. He recently took to Twitter to register a humorous complaint: that the wide range of his assignments doesn’t fit on his nameplate.
“In one of the districts, they (officials in charge of organising a programme) tried to put all the charges I am holding, but still missed one!! I am working as Mission Director @LSBA_Bihar (SBM-G) as well,” he said in a tweet on Monday.

The officer is currently holding charge of seven departments. He is the CEO of the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society-cum-State mission director, State Rural Livelihood-cum-Commissioner-Self-Employment, and commissioner of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
IAS officer Kumar is also the mission director for Jal-Jivan-Hariyali, Rural Development Department of the Government of Bihar, and mission director for the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin.
The issue, clearly, is not just the number of assignments that he holds, but the names of the departments and government schemes he is spearheading.
The enormous clout that the young officer enjoys in the bureaucratic circles is evident in photos and videos he posts on social media sites. His Twitter timeline is full of images posing with none other than the most powerful man in the state – CM Nitish Kumar.
Kumar is the second officer after IG-rank Vikash Vaibhav to have aired a complaint on social media. After Vaibhav’s public allegations of harassment and verbal abuse against his boss, CM Kumar warned state government officials not to use social media for airing grudges. “There is an appropriate platform and authority for filing complaints, social media is definitely not such a place,” he had told media persons.
