Ranbir Kapoor recently in a video was seen praising Yash Raj Chopra’s 1995 film Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge saying the film shaped his personality.

“DDLJ has been the defining film of our generation! I can’t even tell you that feeling is still alive inside me. It influenced the way I dressed. It influenced the way I spoke to a girl. It influenced how I was with my parents… everything,” he said.

It’s been 27 years since the release of DDLJ. DDLJ became so popular that since 1995, fans have shown up at the Maratha Mandir film theatre in Mumbai without fail to catch the matinee show at 11:30 am.

This video of Ranbir Kapoor comes ahead of the release of the much-awaited Netflix docu-series The Romantics which celebrates the legacy of Yash Chopra, the film studio – YRF, and its cultural impact on the country over the past 50 years, the series is set to release this Tuesday, February 14, 2023. In the documentary too, superstar Ranbir Kapoor will talk about how Aditya Chopra directed the all-time blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) that gave shape to Indian pop culture.

The documentary series will see Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Rani Mukerji, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. The superstars of B-town have come together in this show to talk about iconic Hindi cinema producer Yash Raj Chopra and YRF’s contribution to Indian cinema.

For the first time, silent and camera-shy Aditya Chopra will also appear in the documentary to talk about how he directed DDLJ and about the success of YRF’s Pathaan (2023), War (2019), Tiger Lives (2017), Once There Was a Tiger (2012), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Fan (I) (2016) and Sultan (2016).

The Romantics is directed by Oscar & Emmy Award nominated filmmaker Smriti Mundra who has recently come to limelight for the success of Netflix TV series, Indian Matchmaking and the Never Have I Ever.

Yash Chopra is regarded as the ‘Father of Romance’ in India because of his iconic romantic films like Silsila, Lamhe, Kabhi Kabhie, Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai, Chandni, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, etc.
