Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has invited feedback and suggestions and sought the active participation of every legislator to make Himachal Pradesh a green energy state.

Interacting with MLAs from Kangra district on the second day of the state legislators’ meeting, CM Sukhu said that his government is aggressively working to make Himachal Pradesh a green energy state by 2025.

“To achieve this goal, the government is encouraging electric vehicles in the state. Soon, the state public transport fleet will be transformed by inducting electric vehicles,” he told the legislators.

The chief minister said that electric buses have already been purchased to make the green transition. “We aim to replace all fossil fuel-powered vehicles with electric vehicles for government usage within a year,” he revealed.

The Congress leader further said that his government will soon make a provision to authorise only the chief secretary to sanction the purchase of diesel vehicles according to the need.

As many as 110 spots in public places and 700 others in government properties have been identified to install charging stations, he said.

CM Sukhu also said that the government will add electric buses to the public transport fleet in a graded manner to encourage the use of EVs for mobility.

He also discussed in detail the steps to boost tourism in the hill state. “Kangra district will be established as the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh,” the CM announced.

The chief minister also appealed to the legislators to focus on the development of necessary infrastructure to develop the tourism industry in the district.

MLAs representing Dharmshala, Jwalamukhi, Fatehpur and Shahpur listed their priorities to develop their constituencies for tourism. They demanded a ropeway in Dharmshala, and tourist projects in Naddi, and Jwalaji Temple.

On the issue of illegal mining in rivers, chief minister Sukhu directed the officials concerned to prepare a detailed plan to prevent such illegal activities.

“The government is mulling to ban mining activities in a certain radius of projects of bridge construction and irrigation,” he said, adding that the Congress government is committed to completing development projects within the deadline.
