AAP intensifying groundwork ahead of the elections in the union territory
Following its success in Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has set its sights on the upcoming assembly and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir came under President’s Rule after it became a union territory. The assembly elections are slated to be held in May this year.
Dr Sandeep Pathak, AAP Rajya Sabha MP and National General Secretary (Organisation), presided over an important organisation-level meeting of the party’s Jammu and Kashmir wing in the national capital on January 23.
The meeting was also attended by Delhi Cabinet Minister and Election in-charge for Kashmir, Imran Hussain.
The meeting was also attended by chairmen and co-chairmen of different committees of the party and all the district presidents.
Dr Pathak, whose strategy led to the party’s clean sweep victory in Punjab, conducted a first-hand review of party operations and structural development in Jammu and Kashmir during the first phase of this meeting.
He was briefed by party leadership from Jammu and Kashmir about party activities convened in the past and efforts made to strengthen the party at the grassroot level. Efforts to pace the membership drive across Jammu and Kashmir were also reviewed during this meeting and a strategy was devised to expand the membership drive.
During the meeting, the poll strategy for upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed and finalised with a main emphasis on assembly polls, panchayat polls and municipal polls.
In his address, Pathak said that the party will take part and contest the next assembly and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir with full might and political power.
“We will contest the next assembly and panchayat polls with all our might and everyone has to be ready for it,” Pathak said. He asked the party leadership to further step up efforts to strengthen the party in every village and town so that the base of the party expands.
Dr Pathak also expressed his gratitude to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the people of UT have shown immense love and support for the Aam Aadmi Party. He also said that the day is not far away when people will elect their own pro-people Aam Aadmi government following the next assembly elections.
Hailing the zeal of AAP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir for highlighting issues of the masses, Pathak appealed to them to continue working with the same zeal and to become the voice of the masses. “We have to work for the upliftment and inclusive development of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
