The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday levelled allegations of corruption against the former Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Adesh Gupta.

AAP alleges Gupta of acquiring disproportionate properties and not declaring the source of income despite multiple notices by the Lokayukta of Delhi.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, the chief spokesperson of AAP, also demanded a CBI inquiry and the intervention of the Delhi LG and the BJP-run central government into the matter.

“The Lokayukta is conducting a disproportionate assets investigation against ex-Delhi BJP Chief Adesh Gupta for amassing properties worth crores as North MCD Mayor. Despite being issued notices multiple times by Lokayukta, Adesh Gupta is not declaring his sources of income,” Bharadwaj said,

“A company promoted by the sons of Adesh Gupta and former BJP vice president Shyam Jaju is under the scanner for its alleged use as a vehicle to aid the financial wrongdoings. As per the company’s MCA filings, the address of Shyam Jaju’s son is 11A Ashoka Road, New Delhi – the erstwhile BJP National HQ,” said Bharadwaj.

Gupta became a councillor from the West Patel Nagar ward in 2017 and became the mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation in April 2018, remaining in office till April 29, 2019. He was appointed president of the Delhi BJP in June 2020 but had to resign from his post following the party’s debacle in the 2022 mayoral election of Delhi.

The complaint in the Lokayukta court has revealed that Adesh Gupta incorporated a company while he was the MCD mayor, and its earnings are disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

Lokayukta Justice HC Mishra issued notices to Adesh Gupta from August 2022 to January 2023 to declare his assets and income sources, but Gupta has not given any information to date.

Bharadwaj further said according to the report of the Assistant Director of Investigation, Lokayukta, transactions worth crores have been found in the company-held sons of Adesh Gupta and Shyam Jaju. He said LG should also write a letter to the Anti Corruption Branch and CBI about how these properties were bought and sold. The centre should take up a detailed investigation of the case to prove whether it believes in the principle of anti-corruption or not.

“In 2022, advocate Hemant Choudhary had filed a complaint with the Delhi Lokayukta against the then BJP Delhi Chief Adesh Gupta. He has alleged that as the Mayor of the North MCD from April 2018-April 2019, Adesh Gupta indulged in financial impropriety,

“In October 2018, a company by the name of Majboot Solutions Pvt Ltd was incorporated in the names of the sons of Adesh Gupta, Yash and Rajat and the son of the BJP’s former national vice president, Shyam Jaju. This company was allegedly used as a vehicle to aid all the financial wrongdoings Adesh Gupta engaged in as the mayor and a highly influential leader of the BJP,” he added.
