“If there is an artiste who has relentlessly worked to give Pravasi Bharatiya a solid base along with Jaishankar through diplomatic outreach, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
As Madhya Pradesh prepares for polls later this year, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stole the show at the 17th Edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas amid a thunder in Indore on the second day of the event as he invoked Ahilyabai Holkar and meeting of industrious and illustrious global Indians with PM Narendra Modi recently.
Scindia highlighted the contribution of overseas Indians with a powerful speech in Indore today. Talking about the contribution made by the Pravasi community in India’s growth story, he cited how the overseas community helped India navigate global perception about India during the Pokhran nuclear test. “It was the Pravasi community that helped us correct perception globally when the world looked at us suspiciously and issued sanctions during Pokhran tests,” he said.

Hailing Narendra Modi for giving the Pravasi community a sense of identity by strengthening India’s position worldwide he said, India depends on its 3 crore large overseas community to and considers it as part of their own population. “You can take an Indian out of India but not India out of an Indian.”
“If there is an artiste who has relentlessly worked to give Pravasi Bharatiya a solid base along with Jaishankar through diplomatic outreach, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the Ukraine-Russia crisis, PM Modi ensured that under Operation Ganga 23,000 students were safely brought back to India,” he said.
His speech was punctuated by applause from the audience. Scindia’s speech comes at a crucial time. The state is going to polls before November this year. Just before the PBD event began, Scindia’s rival and Congress leader Kamal Nath announced that the Grand Old Party was confident of coming to power in the 2023 Assembly elections.
Nath had to resign as the CM of Madhya Pradesh in 2020 following the humiliating event of 22 legislators leaving Congress within 15 months of forming government. Back then he had blamed BJP for conspiring “with a maharaj (Jyotiraditya Scindia) and 22 greedy MLAs” to topple my government
In 2018, when Congress won the Assembly elections, Scindia lost out on Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s post to Kamal Nath. In a shocker, Jyotiraditya Scindia was defeated in Guna in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls by more than one lakh votes. He lost the seat which he had held since 2002 and had been represented by his grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia and father Madhavrao Scindia to to BJP’s Krishna Pal Yadav.
In March 2020, Scindia announced his resignation from Congress minutes after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Scindia wrote, “While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party.”
