“And now we are going to the sensitive state of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, proper security arrangements should be put in place,” demanded Congress leader Pawan Khera at a press conference here.
Congress party on Wednesday alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s security cover was compromised during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi and demanded adequate protection for him during the Punjab and J&K legs of the multi-state yatra.
In a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah, Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said that Rahul was not provided adequate security cover in Delhi.
“And now we are going to the sensitive state of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, proper security arrangements should be put in place,” demanded Congress leader Pawan Khera at a press conference here.
Khera also released a video showing the Delhi Police’s inability to control a huge crowd during the yatra in the national capital on December 24. Rahul Gandhi is a Z+ category protectee.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to stall the yatra, Khera said: “We are warning those who are trying to disturb the yagna. And those who make hindrances in the yagna are called Rakshas, but this yatra, which is like tapasya will be completed.”
Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Kanyakumari on September 7 and reached Delhi passing through districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana. It will culminate in Srinagar on January 26.
The Congress leader warned BJP and its supporters to refrain from defaming the yatra. “Anyone who tries to stop attempts to unite India is against unity,” he said.
Khera argued that the Congress party not only lost two sitting prime ministers, but also the entire state leadership in Chhattisgarh. “Thus adequate security arrangements are required for the yatra,” he added.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Walia informed that the party has lodged an FIR with the police after catching two officials of Haryana’s intelligence gathering department near the yatra campsite in Sohna on December 23. He dubbed the incident as a breach of security.
