Gujarat Police arrests Surat man for ‘spying’ for ISI

33-year old Deepak Kishor Bhai Salunkhe was arrested by crime branch sleuths from the diamond city, acting on inputs provided by the Military Intelligence from the Pune-based southern army command.

The Gujarat Police on Tuesday apprehended a 33-year-old man from Surat on charges of spying and allegedly working for Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, official sources said.

Based on the inputs provided Military Intelligence of Southern Command, an ISI agent named Deepak Kishor Bhai Salunkhe was apprehended from Surat, Gujarat by Crime Branch,Surat.

33-year old Deepak Kishor Bhai Salunkhe was arrested by crime branch sleuths from the diamond city, acting on inputs provided by the Military Intelligence from the Pune-based southern army command, they said.

A resident of Yogeshwar Park society, Bhuvneswari nagar, Surat City, he was acting as a resident agent for ISI and operating a financial module which was receiving /transferring money to civilians in lieu of crucial info.

The ISI agent was in touch with two Pakistan based handlers Hamid and Kashif and was in the process of compromising sensitive information with these Pakistani handlers. To evade detection and facilitate his espionage activities, the ISI agent was running a shop named Sai Fashions at Surat.

Police on 13 Dec 2022 have lodged an FIR 11210015220232 dt 13 Dec 2022 at DCP Crime, Surat. The ISI agent is being handed over to SOG for further proceedings.
