Congress on Sunday said that former party chief Rahul Gandhi will not attend the winter session of Parliament as it would not be practical for him.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Congress General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal said, “Rahul Gandhi is currently on the Bharat Jodo Yatra and it won’t be practical for him to attend the winter session of Parliament.”
The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on December 7 and will last until December 29. The session also had to be delayed by a month due to the Gujarat election schedule.
He also said gave details about the discussion that took place in the Congress Steering Committee.
“First is the plenary session of our party which we have decided to hold in the second half of February. It will be a 3-day session which will be held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh,” he said.
He also said that second we discussed about the review of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and the future course of action to follow-up of yatra.
“We have decided to hold a massive campaign ‘Hath Se Hath Jodo Abhiyan’ from January 26 onwards. This should be a two months campaign. As per this campaign, Block level Padyatra covering all the Gram Panchayats and Booths and the party will hand over a letter from Rahul Gandhi taking out the core message of this yatra. We will also distribute a charge sheet against the Modi Government along with that letter,” he said.
He also said that there will be village sabhas and flag hoisting during this block level yatra.
“We will have a separate youth connect in this yatra like bike rallies. This is going to happen throughout the country for two months from January 26 onwards. This is a clear follow up of Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Venugop said.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that the Bharat Jodo Yatra that enters Rajasthan today will be in the state till December 20 or 21 and there will be a huge rally in Alwar and on 18 December Rahul Gandhi will hold his 8th press conference.
“We will come to Delhi on December 24 and stay here for 4-5 days as our containers need maintenance,” he said, adding that some heaters have to be installed because winter has just arrived in north India, so it is necessary to do some work in the container.
“So it will take three-four days for that. From the night of December 24 to 28, I think the work of these containers will continue and after that, after four days we will again go from here to Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh to Haryana, Haryana to Punjab and Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir. By January 26, we want to finish the yatra,” Ramesh added.
