Three of a family, including a top Islamic scholar, his son and daughter-in-law, and a teenage boy were killed in a tragic road accident near Chenani area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.
According to officials, the Maruti car they were travelling in from Gool Sangaldan towards Udhampur skidded off the road and rolled down a deep gorge near Prem Mandir in Chenani.
Two of the travellers died on the spot while two others lost their lives on way to the hospital.
The victims have been identified as chief cleric of Jamia Masjid in Sangaldan, Abdul Hamid (32), his wife Hajira Begum, father Mohammad Jamal Uddin (65) who happens to be a renowned Islamic scholar, and another 16-year-old youth Aadil Ahmad.
“All four passengers travelling in an Alto vehicle which met with an accident near Samroli, Udhampur have died. The family belonged to Sangaldan, Gool,” said the deputy commissioner of Ramban.
