Intensifying the crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), the J&K administration has sealed 13 properties worth crores of rupees belonging to the banned outfit in Anantnag in South Kashmir.
According to the recommendation of the Station Investigation Agency (SIA), Anantnag district magistrate Basharat Qayoom issued an order to put restrictions on entry and usage.
The 13 properties including a residential house, shopping complexes, and agricultural land have been sealed under section 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
“Upon obtaining the report from the Tehsildar concerned and after perusal of Revenue Record pertaining to these properties, it was found that these properties are owned by or under the possession of banned Jamaat-e-Islami association through their members,” the order reads.
A residential house constructed over a piece of land measuring 9 marlas and 7 sarsai (presently rented to a native of Bijbehara), orchard land measuring 30 kanal and 1 marla in Rakhi Moman Danjipora village, a shopping complex and Kuthar over the land measuring 7 marlas and 6 sirsai in Arwani village, and commercial-cum-residential two-storey structure along with two shops at ground floor over the land measuring 2 kanals and 1 sarsai are among the properties sealed by authorities.
Other properties include a double-storey residential house over 12 marlas of land in Mattan village and two storey non-functional building over 1 kanal of land in Hakoora village.
The entry and usage of these properties by anyone, other than investigating officers of the SIA and the police for the purpose of investigation, has been banned, the order said.
The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of the SIA, Kashmir division has been authorized to seize/freeze the bank accounts/cash/valuable securities of the banned organisation within the territorial jurisdiction of Anantnag.
Earlier this month, nine properties belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami worth over ₹2.5 crores were sealed in Shopian district.
According to the SIA, the action was a part of its efforts to dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements and terror networks.
