With civic polls in Delhi just a fortnight away The New Indian’s Assistant Editor Urvashi Khona caught up with BJP’s outspoken leader Kapil Mishra on the party’s strategy to beat Aam Aadmi Party.

Mishra slams AAP for selling poll tickets, allegedly misleading the youth by giving them cheap alcohol, and failing to make infrastructural improvements in the national capital.

Confident of winning a decisive mandate, Kapil Mishra says AAP is not capable of running a global city like Delhi.

Excerpts from the interview:

Q Is this time’s MCD election a high stake battle for BJP?

A: It’s not difficult, but all elections are high stake. Every election is a battle at the end of the day. We have to win the confidence of people in every election. I am going on ground meeting people, visiting several municipal wards. Let me tell you BJP is going to repeat victory in MCD. People of Delhi are going to give a decisive mandate against Aam Aadmi Party’s corruption, scandals and scams.

Q: But AAP is attacking you on several issues, and alleging you haven’t worked despite being in power. 

A: Which issues are they attacking us on? Whose Ministers are in Jail? It’s Kejriwal’s ministers who are in Jail. Whose MLAs have been caught giving bribe for ticket?

Someone who is buying tickets of Municipal polls for 90 lakh rupees, can you imagine how they will suck the blood of people when they come to power? Model Town MLA Akhilesh Tripathi’s brother-in-law has been caught red handed with money.

Deal was happening outside residence of Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. More shocking is the statement of Manish Sisodia, who says what happened if money was caught,  at least the ticket was not sold. Thus this means that you have made taking bribe for tickets legal? And announcing it proudly!

Do you think Delhi’s junta is not watching this? Delhi’s junta has also seen who you have made star campaigner – the same person who insulted Hindu deities. Junta is seeing how sad is state of affairs with respect to infrastructure. Not a single project of infrastructure is added. 

Q: BJP is alleging that their candidates are missing and that BJP has not done any work in the past. They allege that roads are damaged and all Delhi has got are mountains of garbage.

A: Where they go to claim that Delhi is all mountains of garbage – visiting landfill?- it’s like visiting your home and opening your home dustbin and questioning that why there is garbage in dustbin.

There is no city in world above one crore which has no landfill. Did AAP leaders tell you how they will vanish these so called mountains of garbage? Any clue they gave?

Will Kejriwal eat these mountains of garbage in breakfast and make them vanish it?  Which model is it? BJP goes to  every door. We go to collect garbage from each household which has decreased the heaps of garbage that was seen here and there in every ward.

After collection of this garbage it will reach landfill where that will get segregated and later get recycled. Every city has this model- its failure of AAP to show garbage they have to visit landfill.

Q: Kejriwal and party says that these charges of Corruptions, scams etc is to suppress their voices… like Manish Sisodia was given offer to join BJP then he will be free from charges is what kejriwal has alleged.

A:  If they are innocent why are they not getting bail? If they say we have done this in wrong way- then at least court should have released Satyendra Jain. He went with a very powerful advocate. Did court free Satyendra Jain of charges?

He must have done something wrong for which he is behind bars. Sisodia was just called for questioning. Why is Kejriwal so sure that he will end up in jail? That means Kejriwal knows he has done something wrong.

Q: AAP claims they have the best education model. 

A: Through your channel,  I want to challenge them. I want to ask in past 8 years tell me one such project, one such school, one such hospital, one such college, one fly over whose foundation AAP has laid, one infra project they started and completed.

Constructing rooms in existing schools is education revolution? Is this education revolution where in half of the schools there is no Science stream? 60 per cent of schools there are no principals. 10th standard board results used to come as 99 percent in 1991-2001; and check now in 2017-18, its 81 percent result. Q: What do you mean by Sewa Bhaav, the recurring theme of your door-to-door campaigning?

A: The main issue with which we are going to people is to make people aware of how they were cheated.  The biggest injustice has been done to the women of Delhi. Delhi’s excise policy made sure that every house had alcoholic men. Behind your back if  the government gives your kids free alcohol, will you vote for them? 

Earlier, Jal Board was a profitable organization but is now going in losses. Pollution continues to be a major issue. Till date it hasn’t been resolved. Delhi is becoming the most polluted city -this is the issue. On the day of Chhath, our daughters, sisters and mothers have to pray in polluted Yamuna this is the issue. That day all of them shed tears of blood that is the issue.. people are going to vote on these issues. 

Q: How do you look at the Congress? Even they are part of this MCD polls fight!

A: Congress is running here and there as headless chicken. I don’t know which direction Congress is running but it’s not in any serious competition. But what people must remember is that Delhi is the capital of India. It is a global city and civic bodies should be run by people who can run a world-class city. Be it in law and order, infrastructure or waste-management and drainage – MCD plays major role in these. This time around Delhi will vote for future. A better future in Amritkaal that PM Modi is talking about – Delhi will vote for that future with better governance.

Q: Are polls also about issues like deadly killing of Shraddha by Aftab? How you look at this..

A: Love Jihad is a countrywide problem. Shraddha will get Shraddhanjali only when the country wakes up the reality of love jihad. But the issue will also impact the people of Delhi because this happened with the same government at helm which promotes leaders who do not believe in Hindu Gods as star campaigners in the civic polls. This is same party whose councillor Tahir Hussain is an accused in the brutal killing of IB staffer Ankit Sharma, this is the same government that stood with the Shaheen Bagh protesters who stalled roads, stopped our children from going to school and shut our shops down. So, definitely it’s a related issue and it will impact the sensitivities of the Delhi voters of have gone through all of this in the past.
