Kashmir SIA Begins To Seal Jamaat-e-Islami’s Properties Worth Hundreds Of Crores

Kashmir’s State Investigating Agency has started sealing properties belonging to banned group Jamaat-e-Islami beginning with Shopian district.

Over 200 properties spread across Kashmir bought in the name of Jamaat-e-Islami ( not counting for the Benami property owned by the organisation) have been identified.

Conservative estimate of the total valuation is approximately 800 crore worth of land holdings. Properties were bought in the name of core Jamaat members and office bearers.

Investigation was part of a tedious month long thorough search of the Revenue department records.

It is speculated that high profile property holdings include Hurriyat’s Hyderpora office that is also the residence of Late SAR Geelani.

SIA has identified nine properties worth 35 crore in Shopian alone.

Shopian is the district with maximum Jamat penetration, alone. Some of these properties are lands while others have houses on them as well.

SIA submitted evidence before the District Magistrate of Shopian.  The DM has banned the JeI from entering or using these nine properties under section 8 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), informed a notification released by Shopian District Magistrate.

“We have preliminarily identified hundreds of properties purchased or acquired by JeI worth hundreds of crores of Rupees,” SIA said.

“To choke the availability of funds for secessionist activities and to dismantle the ecosystem of anti national elements & terror networks hostile to India’s sovereignty, following properties belonging / held by banned JeI J&K in District Shopian of South Kashmir have been notified by District Magistrate Shopian vide Notification No. DCS/ARA/2022 /467-73 dated 07/11/22 followed by administrative order No DCS/ARA/474-80 dated 09/11/22 in exercise of power conferred by section 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 & Notification No. 14017/7/2019 dated 28- February- 2019 of union Ministry of Home Affairs,” read the notification issued by the DM.

Shopian properties of JEI are the first to be notified in a series of properties belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami in other districts of J&K.

According to the notification the seized properties include –

  • Land measuring 2 Kanal 15 Marla in village Batpora in the name of JeI through its Ameer-e-Zilla Abdul Hameed of Nadigam Shopian .
  • 7 Marla in same village in the name of Ameer-e-Zilla Shahzada Aurangzeb, 7 Marla 3 Sarsai, also in village Batpora in the name of Aurangzeb.
  • 16 Marla in the name of same person, under-construction building over land 1 Kanal and 7 Marla in Batpora in the name of same person.
  • 17 Marla through its Ameer-e-Zilla Mohammad Sultan of Nownagari Tral.
  • 17 Marla in village Heepora Batagund in the name of Ameer-e-Zilla Shahzada Aurangzeb, 2 storey yet to be functional School building over land measuring 1 Kanal and 08 Marla in village Bongam in the name of Iqra Public School through Falah-i-Aam Trust, Shopian and four storey building over land measuring 4 Marla and 02 Marla in village Kanipora/Batpora, a

Pertinently, SIA has identified as many as 188 JeI properties across UT of J&K which are to be notified during the further course of action to be undertaken . These are as a result of investigation of case FIR number 17 of 2019 U/S 10,11 & 13 of police station Batmaloo being investigated by SIA.

The worth of the property mentioned is as per circle office rate. Real market value is 40-50% more than that.
