Dimple Yadav, Samajwadi Party leader and wife of party chief Akhilesh Yadav will contest the Lok Sabha bye-election from Mainpuri constituency.

The election was necessitated due to the demise of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

A press release signed by State President Naresh Uttam Patel made the declaration of Dimple being chosen as the party’s official candidate for the bye-elections.

There have been many speculations around who would contest from the family bastion, after he passed in October this year.

Mulayam Singh won Mainpuri in 1996 and then again in 2004. He contested and won from Mainpuri in 2009 and 2019 as well.

Dimple has served as Lok Sabha MP twice from Kannauj as Samajwadi Party candidate.

Dimple contested as a joint candidate of the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but lost to BJP’s Subrat Pathak with a margin of more than 10,000 votes.
