BJP has registered a clinching victory in Adampur bye-elections helping Bhajan Lal’s grandson Bhavya Bishnoi retain the family seat. Bhavya won the seat by a lead of over 16,000 and securing 51.32 per cent of the vote share.

His nearest opponent Congress’ Jai Prakash got 39 per cent of the votes.

The seat was left vacant after  Bhavya’s father Kuldeep Bishnoi quit  the Congress in August, 2019 to join the ruling BJP.

He left Congress after he was denied the position of  state Congress president thus losing his seat.

However, the party hopping hardly had any impact on his electorate as voters backed Bishnoi’s son and gave him the mandate with a thumping majority.

Irrespective of their party affiliation, the Bishnois have never lost an election in Adampur since 1968.

Adampur is one of Haryana’s 90 Assembly constituencies and one that former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal’s family has never lost since 1968.

Bhajan Lal Bishnoi was three-time chief minister of the Indian state of Haryana. He became the Chief Minister for the first time in 1979, was re-elected in 1982, and became the chief minister for the third time by winning the elections in 1991.

Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi first became MLA from Adampur seat in 1998 from Adampur.

Kuldeep Bishnoi founded Haryana Janhit Congress – (HJC (BL)) in 2007 with father after he was thrown. out of Congress for criticising the then Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, for allegedly harming the interests of farmers by promoting special economic zones (SEZs) on fertile land.

In 2011, following the death of his father his party formed an alliance with BJP amid much fanfare. Again in 2016, after his meeting with the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, he merged JC (BL) with the Indian National Congress.

In 2019 vidhan sabha election was re-elected from the constituency with a winning margin of 29,783.

Following his difference with Congress, he again joined BJP on 4th August, 2022.
