A day after his deputy accused the BJP and the lieutenant governor of trying to shut down free yoga classes, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the session would continue for the public.
The AAP government launched free yoga classes for the public at 590 locations in Delhi last year.

“It is very sad to know that the BJP and LG sahib are trying to force us to shut down yoga classes which were started last year. More than 17,000 people are getting its benefits… But we are not going to close these classes,” Kejriwal said at a press conference.
Requesting contractual yoga teachers to keep holding the classes, he further said that the Delhi government aims to bring two crore people to these daily classes.
“We want to teach yoga in Punjab and Gujarat as well,” said Kejriwal, who often promises to replicate the schemes of his “Delhi model” in other poll-bound states. While AAP is already in power in Punjab, it has been making desperate attempts to project itself as a serious contender in the polls in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Accusing lieutenant governor VK Saxena on the behalf of the BJP of trying to staff his welfare schemes, the chief minister alleged that the mohalla clinic, his ambitious initiative, would be targetted next.
“They will try to create hindrances in the distribution of free medicine at mohalla clinics. They will stop tenders for clinics and schools,” he alleged.
On Monday, his deputy Manish Sisodia said that orders were issued by the LG office to stop the “Delhi Ki Yogshala” programme.
“Despite budgetary approvals from the Delhi government, orders to stop the yoga classes have been passed by threatening and pressurising the government officials,” Sisodia said on Twitter.
The AAP leader had said that the free yoga classes will be discontinued from Tuesday at 590 parks in the capital city.
