Even as Congress has released two lists of candidates for Himachal Pradesh, party in-charge for the state Rajiv Shukla on Friday said that party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address four public meetings and hold four road shows.

Shukla, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, said, “Priyanka Gandhi will address four more rallies in the state and will hold road shows.”

Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi had addressed a massive public meeting in Solan. She highlighted the relationship that her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi shared with the state.

She also pointed out that it was Indira Gandhi’s wish to have a house built in Himachal Pradesh after her retirement and that was the reason she decided to build a home in the state.

The election for the 67-member Himachal Pradesh assembly is scheduled for November 12. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.

The Congress earlier this week released its two candidate lists – the first of 46 candidates and the second of 17 names – which include Vikramaditya Singh, son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, along with the senior party leaders Asha Kumari and Raghuvir Singh Bali, among others.

Shukla also said that he has requested former party chief Rahul Gandhi to address a public meeting in Himachal Pradesh by taking some time out from the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

When asked about some leaders miffed by the list of candidates released, Shukla said that some people get disheartened when they don’t find their names on the list and it happens in all political parties.

The Congress is eyeing a comeback in the hill states, where it has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of failing to fulfil the promises made to the people.

The Congress leader said that the party is raising the issue of unemployment in the state and it has also promised to implement the old pension scheme once it is voted to power.

During her public meeting last week, Priyanka Gandhi announced ₹1,500 to women and employment to one lakh people.
