The sensational gangrape and iron rod inserted into the private parts of a 38-year-old Delhi woman in Ghaziabad turned out to be false.
Ghaziabad police, on Thursday, said that the woman, along with her accomplices, had concocted the story to trap the accused with whom she was having a property dispute.
The incident gained prominence after Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal tweeted that the woman was found wrapped in a jute bag, with her hands and legs tied, and an iron rod inserted into her private parts. Maliwal also sent a notice to Ghaziabad police.
The story drew widespread attention as it reminded one of the Nirbhaya cases of a horrific sexual assault on a young girl in Delhi’s Munirka.
However, according to police, investigations have revealed that the woman in question had tried to misuse the law for her own benefit.
The Inspector General (IG) of Meerut range, Praveen Kumar, said, “The technical and forensic evidence have revealed the truth. The mobile phone locations and statements of all the persons revealed that the woman was having a property dispute due to which she misled the police.”
IG Kumar also said a separate case against the woman and three of her male friends – Azad, Afzal and Gaurav – has been registered and further investigation has started. The senior police officer said that since the woman is still under medical observation, she will be properly counselled and then apprehended.
On Wednesday, a woman was found lying on the roadside in Ghaziabad’s Nandgram area. Her hands were tied, and her body was wrapped in a sack. The local police immediately took cognisance and rushed the woman to a Ghaziabad hospital.
The police said the woman, however, shifted herself to Delhi’s GTB Hospital. She also refused to undergo a medical examination. However, she gave the statement that five persons who live in her neighbourhood in Delhi’s Welcome area raped her and dumped her at the roadside near Ghaziabad.
During the course of investigations, Ghaziabad police found that the woman, along with her male friend and two more friends, concocted a story to trap her neighbours over a property dispute worth ₹53 lakhs.
The police said accused Azad had also tried to give money to a few persons so that the story of the gang rape could be spread on the social media platform. He had given the money through Paytm.
Police also said that Azad has also made an Aadhar card showing him to be the husband of the accused woman. Police said they were further investigating the whole incident.
