Promoting sustainable living: PM Modi to launch Mission LIFE today

On the second day of his visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 10th Heads of Missions Conference at Kevadia on Thursday. PM will launch Mission LiFE in Kevadiya in the presence of UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. Later, PM will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for Projects worth around Rs 15,670 crore in Gujarat at Vyara in Tapi district of South Gujarat.

Prime Minister will have a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary General, H.E. Antonio Guterres. Thereafter, the launch of Mission LiFE will be done at Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, Kevadia. The idea behind this initiative is to have an India-led global mass movement that will nudge individual and collective action to protect and preserve the environment.

Mission LiFE aims at following a three-pronged strategy for changing our collective approach towards sustainability. First is by nudging individuals to practise simple yet effective environment-friendly actions in their daily lives (demand); second is by enabling industries and markets to respond swiftly to the changing demand (supply) and; third is to influence government and industrial policy to support both sustainable consumption and production (policy).

These comments came after Modi planned a three-day visit for inaugurating development projects in the poll-bound state. The 10th Heads of Missions Conference has been organised by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The three-day conference will bring together more than 100 Heads of Indian Missions including Ambassadors and High Commissioners from all over the world. Various issues pertaining to the contemporary geo-political & geo-economic environment, and connectivity will be discussed at the conference. On Wednesday, PM Modi laid the foundation stones and dedicated to the national projects worth over 15 thousand 670 crore rupees. These projects included, the Mission Schools of Excellence at Adalaj conceived with a total outlay of 10,000 Crore rupees.

Other projects worth around Rs 4,260 crore rupees at Trimandir. foundation stone laying for the improvement of coastal highways along with the construction of missing links, two water supply projects, and construction of a godown complex for the storage of Agri products at Junagadh, according to PIB. At Gir Somnath, he laid the foundation stone for a fishing port at Madhwad. At Rajkot, the Prime Minister dedicated over 1100 houses constructed under the Light House Project at Urban Housing Conclave 2022.

Addressing a gathering in Junagadh on Wednesday, the PM said the government is focusing on the security and welfare of fishermen as well as strengthening coastal infrastructure. He said, the double-engine government is focused on the holistic development of Gujarat’s coastline which was looked upon as a burden in history. The Prime Minister said the Sagarkhedu scheme of the government which addresses special problems to improve the quality of life in coastal areas, especially fisherman population, resulted in increasing the fishing export by seven times during the last eight years.

Throwing light on making India’s defence sector self-reliant, the PM said that two lists of equipment have been finalized which would be procured only within the country. The list of 101 such items was released yesterday. Modi said, these decisions show the potential of a self-reliant India. “After the list, there will be 411 such equipment and equipment of the defence sector, which will only be bought under the Make in India,” he said.
