Continuing with its probe into the West Bengal Staff Selection Commission (WBSSC) case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons a close aide of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Manik Bhattacharya for interrogation.
Tapas Mondal, who owns a teacher training centre, has been called to the CGO Complex in Kolkata on October 20. According to sources, Mondal has also been asked to bring bank account documents of teacher training centres.
Mondal’s son confirmed that his father will reach the ED office and will cooperate with the officials.
On Saturday, ED conducted searches at several places in Kolkata, including Mondal’s residence near Kamakhya Balak Ashram and his office, in connection with its ongoing probe into the recruitment scam in West Bengal, where some of the top leaders of the ruling TMC are under the lens.
Along with crucial documents and land deeds, a hard disk, two mobile phones and two pen drives from Mondal’s office were recovered by ED during the search operation.
Along with ED, officials from the Income Tax department also searched Mondal’s residence and training institute.
The ED had already arrested Bhattacharya, a former chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, in connection with the case. The Special Court (PMLA) in Kolkata on October 11 ruled for Bhattacharya’s remand to ED custody for 14 days.
Earlier, ED had arrested powerful, but now suspended, TMC leader and former industries minister Partha Chatterjee in the alleged SSC scam. His close aide, Arpita Mukherjee, was also arrested in the same case after close to ₹50 crores in cash was recovered from her various premises.
ED began searching eight locations altogether regarding the SSC scam, which includes that of Bhattacharya’s residence too.
Just like SSC, there are many allegations of irregularities in the TET examination. In this case, the ED wants to interrogate Bhattacharya to know whether there was a transaction of big money.
