Boat Carrying 20 Sinks In Bihar’s Hajipur, Two Killed

In a tragic incident, two youths from the same family lost their lives after the boat they were travelling in along with at least 18 others capsized in a canal in Hajipur near the capital Patna in Bihar on Tuesday.

As per the police, 20-25 people were crossing the Tirhut canal, which originates from the Gandak river, on the boat when it capsized in Lalganj area of Vaishali district.

The group was on its way to participate in the last rites ceremony of a person named who died in a road accident. While most of the travellers managed to swim out of the canal, the two youths – Anil Sah and Rajesh could not make it to the canal bank.

The police and the district administration launched a search and rescue operation and recovered the body after several hours. Both bodies have been sent to Hajipur district hospital for post-mortem examination by the Lalganj police. While Anil was a resident of Amritpur village in Zafarabad area, Rajesh resided in a different family house in Rohua village that falls under the Bhagwanpur police station area.

The deceased persons were the relative of Rajit Shah, who was killed in a car accident in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

The incident comes almost a month after an overloaded boat carrying as many as 55 people sank in the Ganga river in Danapur area of Patna.

As per local media reports, at least five people went missing after the accident in Shahpur police station area.
