Hours after the Chandigarh University video leaked matter came to the fore, Himachal Pradesh police nabbed the main accused, Sunny, from near his house in Rohuru, Shimla.

Sunny’s arrest happened after Punjab Police alerted and shared some inputs about him with Himachal Pradesh Police.

Speaking to The New Indian, Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Kundu said, “Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav had sought the assistance of HP Police. Within a few hours, we nabbed the culprit and brought him to Rohru Police Station. He has been handed over to Punjab Police.”

DGP Kundu also added that if they find any evidence of wrongdoing by the accused in Himachal Pradesh, then HP Police will not hesitate to register a separate FIR against the accused.

Congratulating his team on the quick response to the case, Kundu also tweeted, “Chandigarh University case. Himachal Pradesh Police reacted to the request of the Punjab Police with sensitivity & professionalism. We nabbed the accused. Congrats to Dr Monika, SP Shimla & her team for great professional work (sic).”

The police said that Sunny is a class 12 pass out. He was not currently enrolled in any college.

The Himachal Pradesh police said, since it’s a case of Punjab police, they will further inquire about the matter before revealing any details.

According to the FIR, which was registered at Punjab’s Kharar, on Saturday at 3 pm, six girls from the college hostel informed the warden that they had caught a girl who had filmed them while they were in the bathroom.

The warden took that girl and six other students to the manager of the hostel. The warden and manager asked the girl to show her mobile phone.

The accused girl said she had sent the videos only to Sunny, who is based in Shimla, and didn’t know how others got the videos, the FIR further added.

The college staff then informed the local police and gave their statements. They also handed over the girl and her mobile phone to the police. The girl is already in the custody of the Punjab Police.
