The simmering politics of Bihar heated up further on Wednesday as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at 25 locations in connection with a land-for-job scam and recovered more than “200 sale deeds”.
The CBI sources told The New Indian that the agency has mentioned two gift deeds and five sale deeds while registering an FIR against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, two daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, and others.
The central agency searched 25 locations linked to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), the sources pointed out.
“The CBI team is also searching a mall named Urban Cubes 71 in Gurugram’s Sector 71, which is said to be owned by Tejashwi Yadav, his family members, and associates,” a CBI source said.
While Yadav had vehemently denied that he or any of his family members owned the mall in question, his party hit back at the CBI searches, saying the action of the agency is nothing new and they won’t be scared.
The source further said that the agency sleuths also got links between WhiteLand and the Urban Cube 71, thus its premises were searched. The CBI also found some documents of Elite Landways, which is linked with WhiteLand, the source said.
The teams of the federal agency also carried out searches on the premises of RJD Rajya Sabha members Ahmad Ashfaq Karim and Dr Faiyaz Ahmad, as well as the premises of party MLC Sunil Singh, who is also the treasurer of the party.
The searches were conducted at 25 locations in the alleged land-for-job scam in Bihar’s Patna, Katihar, and Madhubani and in Delhi and Haryana’s Gurugram.
Reacting to CBI searches on Urban Cube 71 Mall, Tejashwi Yadav slammed the central government. Speaking to the media outside the Bihar Assembly after winning the floor test, he said, “Several media houses ran the story of CBI searches at a mall owned by Tejashwi Yadav in Gurugram. I have come here with the documents of the mall, and the mall belongs to Krishna Kumar, a resident of Haryana’s Bhiwani. ”
He said that the BJP was trying to defame him and his party. They are trying to publicize it by projecting it as my property, he alleged. “This was being done to defame the image of Tejashwi Yadav and the RJD,” he pointed out. “I enquired about the project and it was found that it does not belong to me or my family,” he said.
He also said that the actual name of the company is WhiteLand, which owns the Urban Cube, located in Sector 71 of Gurugram.
The CBI registered a case on May 18 this year against RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, his two daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, and unknown public servants and private persons.
The CBI FIR stated that Lalu Prasad , who was the railway minister during the period 2004-2009, had obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of land property in the name of his family members etc in lieu of the appointment of substitutes in Group ‘D’ posts in different zones of Railways.
The CBI had earlier on July 27 arrested Lalu Prasad’s former OSD Bhola Yadav and Hridyanand Choudhary, who worked as substitute employees of the railways, in connection with the case.
Earlier on May 20, the CBI had carried out searches at 16 locations in Bihar’s Patna, Gopalganj and Delhi on the premises of Lalu Prasad and his family members.
