Former JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will not dance anymore. “Never Again,” Omar tweeted, after a video of his breaking into a jig at a ceremony went viral. Omar was trolled for his act and faced brickbats from different quarters.  It all happened at the grand wedding function of the son of National Conference provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani.

Popular as Nasir Sogami, he has often been dubbed as one of the two eyes of Omar –the other being Devender Singh Rana who dumped the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sogami and Rana have remained two closest aides of Omar ever since he joined politics on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections in 1998.

Omar’s father and former JK Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah shows no inhibitions or qualms about letting loose the lighter side of his personality at parties and gatherings. Joining him this time was Omar at the wedding ceremony of  Nasir’s son – Sadat Nasir Sogami who married Bisma.

The father-son duo was spotted shaking a leg together at the function held in Posh Shivpora area of Srinagar last Thursday. The wazan at the ceremony continued almost for a week. Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was a guest.

The video of Omar, Farooq and others has now gone viral on social media. The Abdullahs can be seen dancing to the beats of the popular song Dama Dam Mast Qalandar. A jubilant Omar dressed in a blue achkan can be seen enjoying himself at the occasion as he first takes to the dance floor alone. The National Conference (NC) leader then walks up to Amarinder Singh inviting him for a dance.

The marriage was attended by several politicians. Nidhi Razdhan can be seen in a group picture along with Omar, Nasir and the bride. Besides, most bureaucrats, who worked during the NC regime in JK, were at the grand wedding.

Notably, videos showing politicians dancing make them seem relatable. There have been instances when other politicians have also been seen dancing. They included West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee who joined in with tribal folk dancers during Independence Day celebrations.

Earlier, Nagaland Tribal Affairs Minister Temjen Imna Along shared a video of himself grooving with other folk dancers during the Tsungremmong celebrations. His video became an overnight internet sensation for his quirky sense of humour.
