NEW DELHI: Tricolour was hoisted at the house of Canada-based separatist Gurpatwant Pannun, who had exhorted Punjabis to unfurl Khalistan flag this Independence Day, in Chandigarh on Thursday.

As per local media reports, Congress leader Gursimram Singh Mand from Ludhiana along with his supporters went outside the house of Pannun. They raised slogans hailing Mother India and put up the Tricolour at the main gate.

“We have been going door to door to encourage people to hoist the national flag at their homes. We noticed this house, which, according to the NIA notice pasted here, belongs to SJF mastermind Pannun,” Mand said.

He further said, “Tiranga is the pride of every Indian and everyone living in this country must respect it.”

Pannun has been exhorting Punjabi youth to hoist the so-called flag of Khalistan, a separate nation state his secessionist outfit Sikhs for Justice (SJF) demands to be carved out of Punjab, at key places in the state.

He recently announced to replace the highest Tiranga at Attari along the India-Pakistan border with the Khalistan flag. What surprised many was a viral video featuring a woman, who described herself a ‘Kashmiri mujahideen’, supporting SFJ’s declaration.

In a video message last week, Pannun, while giving a twist to the government of India’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, called upon the people of Punjab to raise ‘Har Ghar Khalistan slogan’ and also display the Khalistan flag at their homes on August 15 when India completes 75 years of her Independence.

Pannun has offered employment opportunities abroad besides a cash prize for hoisting the Khalistani flag.

Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee president Baljit Singh Daduwal recently called upon Sikh youths to stay away from the separatist’s allurements.

Last year, workers of Punjab Youth Federation had hoisted Tricolour in Pannun’s ancestral village in Khankot in Amritsar on the occasion of Independence Day.
