TMC To Miss VP Swearing-In Ceremony After Skipping Election

KOLKATAAfter skipping the Vice Presidential election, the Trinamool Congress has decided not to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Vice President elect Jagdeep Dhankar on Thursday.

 According to sources, TMC Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien and Lok Sabha leader Sudeep Bandhopadhyay have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony that is scheduled for 11.45 am at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

 However, both Bandhopadhyay and O’Brien have informed that they will not be able to attend.

 Most of the TMC MPs returned to the state soon after the monsoon session is over.

 Meanwhile, TMC and Congress have also declined an invitation from President Draupadi Murmu.

Earlier, TMC, Congress, and other opposition leaders had sought a meeting with the President on the Anti-Money Laundering Act. However, even after 16 opposition parties gave an application to meet her, they failed to get time from the President.

The Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge, wrote on Twitter, “A joint statement was signed by the opposition parties against the unlawful PMLA amendments by Modi govt and abuse of ED & other central agencies against opposition leaders. We will continue to fight against this tyrannical regime how much ever it may try to stifle us… (sic)”

Meanwhile, the President met with Bengal BJP president and MP Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday.
