PATNA: After being sworn in as Chief Minister for the eight-time, Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) should worry about its prospects in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
While speaking to media outside Raj Bhawan shortly after taking oath as Chief Minister, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader said, “He (Narendra Modi) won in 2014, but should now worry about 2024.”
He was administered the oath of office by Governor Phagu Chauhan.
Kumar also rubbished the BJP’s claim that the new government will not last its full term. He said his former ally — the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) — will be back where they were after the 2015 assembly polls.
He questioned, “Those who came to power in 2014, will they be victorious in 2024? I would like all (opposition) to be united for 2024. I am not a contender for any such post (PM post).”
Besides Kumar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav was also administered oath as his deputy.
The expansion of the Cabinet is to take place some days later. The BJP, however, remained absent from the oath-taking ceremony.
On Tuesday, Kumar snapped ties with the BJP once again after five years. He had joined the NDA in 2017 after a gap of five years. Kumar contested elections in 2019 Lok Sabha polls and 2020 assembly polls in alliance with the BJP. In 2015, he had joined the Grand Alliance of the RJD, the Congress and the Left parties, but left it in 2017.
