DEHRADUN: A ramp bridge in Haridwar, built during the Maha Kumbh, was washed away on Sunday after torrential rains, leaving more than 50 villages cut off from the mainland.
Officials of the district administration visited the spot and assured people that the situation would be handled soon.
Puran Singh Rana, sub-divisional magistrate, said, “The situation is being monitored and we will build the bridge soon. A total of 300 meters of land has been washed away. Families living nearby have been shifted to safe locations. An optional route of 3-4 km is being used to travel between both the areas — Bahadarabad and Dhanauri.”
The ramp bridge, which was a link between Bahadarabad and Dhanauri areas on the tributary of river Ganga in Haridwar district, was built on Ranipur road. It got washed away by the strong current of Roh river.
SDM Puran Singh Rana visited the affected areas. He said that although there has been no loss of life, the administration is keeping an eye on the water level.
The team of irrigation department along with five JCB machines have been pressed into reconstructing and building a security wall.
With the Roh river swelling due to heavy rains, the residents of a nearby colony were forced to leave their homes.
