SRINAGAR: While a section of the political class is crying hoarse over the issue, the common person in Jammu and Kashmir seems to have realized the benefits of the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into three Union Territories.

On the third anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, the restive valley wore a peaceful look with people busy with their daily lives.

Shops and other establishments in the city, including the Lal Chowk city centre, were open for business. Even in the terror hotbeds of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal and Kupwara districts, people were going on with their daily routines.

The public transport service remained as usual across Kashmir on Friday.

Jammu and Kashmir was the only state in the country with a separate constitution as per the provisions mentioned in Article 370, a ‘temporary provision’ that granted special autonomous status to the State.

After the revocation of Article 370, all Central laws and various welfare schemes are applicable there and the decision has also paved the way for attracting investment in the region, which, in turn, has brought in development.
