ISIS Module Case: NIA Searches In 6 States

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday carried out searches at several locations in six states in connection with activities of the ISIS module case.

An anti-terror probe agency spokesperson said that the NIA conducted searches at 13 premises of suspects in six states in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal and Raisen districts, Gujarat’s Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Ahmedabad districts, Bijar’s Araria district, Karnataka’s Bhatkal and Tumkur City districts, Maharashtra’s Kolhapur and Nanded districts and Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband districts.

According to NIA sources, the agency sleuths have detained Farooq, who was associated with the ISIS module from Deoband.

The source said that he was in touch with the members of the module in Karnataka. The source further said that Farooq has knowledge of multiple languages and was studying in a madrasa in Deoband.

The source also said that Farooq used to translate the literature of the ISIS module.

The NIA registered a case suo-moto on June 25 this year under sections 153A, & 153B of IPC and sections 18, 18B, 38, 39 & 40 of UA(P) Act.

During searches, the agency seized incriminating documents and materials.
