KOLKATA: Amidst mounting pressure, Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday suspended Partha Chatterjee from the party till the investigations are over.
The TMC disciplinary committee met in Kolkata today and took the decision to suspend Chatterjee, a fellow committee member as well as an influential party leader.
TMC’s all-powerful national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced, “Partha Chatterjee has been removed from all the posts he held in the party (five posts). He is being suspended from the party till the investigations continue. If it is proved he is innocent, then the doors of the party are open for him.”
TMC’s decision to suspend Chatterjee came six days after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the multi-crore Bengal SSC Scam.
“At the same time, we demand that BJP leaders who shifted from TMC also be probed and measures be taken against them as well. There cannot be two separate laws or rules,” Banerjee reiterates.
Banerjee at the same time also demanded that BJP leaders who shifted from TMC should also be probed and measures taken against them as well. There cannot be two separate laws or rules, he said.
On being asked if this scam would taint the party’s overall image, Banerjee said, “Accusations are on one member, not all the leaders. If there is a by-election, the people will show where their faith lies.”
