Narcotics, Arms Trafficking Case: NIA Searches 22 Locations In TN

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday carried out searches at 22 locations of the accused in Tamil Nadu in connection with narcotics and arms trafficking to India and Sri Lanka.

An NIA spokesperson here said that the agency sleuths carried out searches at 22 premises of the accused and suspects in Chennai, Thiruppur, Chengalpattu and Thiruchirapally districts, in Tamil Nadu.

The search was held in a case of illegal activities of the Sri Lankan drug mafia being operated by C Gunashekharan aka Guna and Pushparajah aka Pookutti Kanna in association with Haji Salim, a drug and arms supplier based in Pakistan.

The official said that these drugs and arms traffickers have been operating in India and Sri Lanka and working for the revival of LTTE and to further its violent activities.

The NIA registered suo moto on July 8 this year under sections 120B of IPC, sections 18, 20, 38, 39 and 40 of UA (P) Act besides section 8(c) read with sections 21(c), 23(c), 24, 27A, 28 and 29 of NDPS Act.

The official said that the searches conducted today have led to the recovery and seizure of digital devices and various incriminating documents.
