LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday wished the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, and appealed to them to celebrate the festival while observing all Covid-related protocols.

In his message to the citizens, CM Yogi, who is also the chief priest of the famous Gorakhpur temple, said the Indian culture accords the highest position to gurus.

The festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated in India, Nepal, and Bhutan by Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists. It is dedicated to all the spiritual and academic Gurus, who are evolved or enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom, based on Karma Yoga.

Since it is believed that Maharishi Vedvyas took birth on Guru Purnima, this day is also known as Vyas Purnima.

“In our culture, Guru is considered equal to Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahesh. Guru molds the disciple, so he is Brahma. The Guru protects the disciple, therefore he is Vishnu. Guru destroys all the shortcomings of the disciple, so he is the real Maheshwar (Lord Shiva),” CM Yogi said.

The Chief Minister further said that the festival inspires us to pay respect and gratitude to the great men who took us on the right path, who showed a new path to society, nation, and the world with their knowledge, sacrifice, and penance.
