Kanhaiya Lal had written to the police that he was facing a death threat

UDAIPUR/NEW DELHI: Almost 13 days ahead of his gruesome death, Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor from Udaipur had written to Rajasthan Police that he was facing death threat while his movements were being recorded over a Facebook post by his younger son in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

In his plea before the police, Lal also stated that he needs police protection as he was unable to open his shop and faced death threats after his pictures were shared by a few people in other groups to kill him.

In his application to police dated June 15, Lal said that his younger son had accidentally shared a post on social media in support of Nupur Sharma while playing a game.

Nupur Sharma stoked a controversy with a remark against Prophet Mohammed last month. She was later suspended by the party.

Lal stated that after two days, two people came to his shop and asked for his phone to make a call.

“I shared my phone with them to make the call. However, they deleted the social media post and asked me if I had shared it. I told them I don’t know how to use the phone and it was posted by my son while playing the game,” he said in his application.

He also said that they warned him to not post such content on social media in future and left.

“I also came to know that five to seven people are camping near my shop every day and I also came to know they plan to kill me once I open my shop,” he said.
