NEW DELHI: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, who was discharged from hospital on Monday, has written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking postponement of her questioning by a few weeks as she has been advised rest by the doctors, party leaders said on Wednesday.

The ED has asked her to appear on June 23 in connection with the case.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter and wrote, “Since Sonia Gandhi has been strictly advised to rest at home following her hospitalisation on account of COVID and lung infection, she has written to ED today seeking the postponement of her appearance there by a few weeks.”

Sonia Gandhi had tested positive for COVID on June 2. She was admitted at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on June 12 due to COVID related issues.

She was discharged from the hospital on June 20.

Sonia Gandhi after her admission to hospital developed profuse bleeding from the nose following a recent COVID infection. She was immediately put under treatment and underwent a related follow-up procedure on the morning of June 16. A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected upon her admission.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Sonia Gandhi for questioning in May this year to appear before it on June 8 in connection with the National Herald case. However, she tested positive for COVID and asked the investigating agency for another date.

The ED has already questioned his son and former party chief Rahul Gandhi for five days for over 54 hours in connection with the alleged money laundering case involving National Herald.
