Cases Of Concern: 12K New COVID Cases In 24 Hrs

NEW DELHI: In a worrying escalation of COVID cases across the country, India has recorded 12,213 new cases in the last 24 hours.

In an alarming sign, this is the first time since February 26 the country had seen a single-day surge of more than 10,000 cases.

On Wednesday, the Union health ministry reported 8,822 cases. After the surge yesterday, the daily positivity rate stands at 2.35 per cent.

India’s active caseload currently stands at 58,215. The active cases now constitute 0.13 per cent of the country’s total positive cases.

Since June 31, the covid trend suggests a continuous rise in cases that varied between 3,000 to 4,500 mark every day.

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya, during a review meeting with health ministers’ from states, had earlier cautioned that “COVID is not over yet”. Mandaviya also stressed on no wastage of vaccines and emphasised on testing.

The last 24 hours saw more than 5.19 lakhs COVID-19 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 85.63 cr (85,63,90,449) cumulative tests.

On June 3, Rajesh Bhushan, health secretary of the Union health ministry, sent letters to Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra over rising cases being reported from these states.

According to the ministry bulletin, the recovery rate currently stands at 98.65 per cent with the weekly positivity rate presently at 2.38 per cent.

Health experts have cautioned against lowering the COVID guards and not adhering to the protocol is acting as a catalyst in the rising number.
