NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the Delhi Police personnel forcibly entered its office and thrashed several party leaders and workers.
The Congress also described the actions of the Delhi Police as an act of goondaism led by the Central government and said that it will hold protests across the country in front of Raj Bhawans.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal took to Twitter and wrote, “Today, Delhi Police forcibly entered the HQ of India’s oldest political party. As they burst the doors open to the AICC HQ, they trampled upon the democracy our forefathers fought and gave their lives for. BJP has truly killed Indian democracy. It doesn’t get darker than this.”
He also attached a video of Delhi Police personnel entering the party office.

Speaking to the media, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Delhi Police forcibly entered AICC Headquarters, beat up workers and leaders. It’s an act of goondaism led by Central government.”
Surjewala said that the actions of the Delhi Police are a criminal trespass. He said Congress will hold a protest in front of Raj Bhawans across the country tomorrow.

“Congress demands FIR on all police officials who forcibly entered party headquarters and thrashed the party leaders. He also demanded to suspend the erring Police officials and also to hold department inquiry against those police officials who thrashed the Congress leaders in party headquarters,” Surjewala said.
He further said that suitable action both criminal and legal will be taken.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said, “We have come to attend a meeting at our headquarters but the police had stopped us. We are just asking what is the reason behind it? How they can stop a political office-bearer from going to his office? They told us that they have the orders from above.”
“In a democratic set up how can you stop a political party worker from entering his office. Is this right? It’s injustice, unjustified,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Congress leaders sat in protest outside party headquarters. Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Ajay Maken and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel over the police not allowing party leaders and workers to enter the premises of Congress.
