U’khand Police, IIT Roorkee Launch Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2.0

DEHRADUN: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and the Uttarakhand Police on Wednesday jointly launched the second edition of the state-level Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon in a bid to find solutions to new challenges in cyber policing.

As part of the first stage of the hackathon, the Uttarakhand Police have launched of a website for registration, and submission of ideas and solutions, at its headquarters here. The website has been developed under the aegis of IIT Roorkee and Uttarakhand Police.

The other two stages of the event will be the main contest and prize distribution ceremony.

IIT, Roorkee is the knowledge and organising partner of the event that will see young minds from across the country coming up with innovative ideas to strengthen smart policing in the state. Tech Mahindra is the industrial partner.

The need for hackathons for finding technological solutions has now and then been stressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Interestingly, Uttarakhand Police have become the first police force in any north Indian state to undertake such an initiative.

On the launch of the website, director general of police, Ashok Kumar said, “Following the vision of smart policing of the PM, about 332 teams from across the country participated in the first edition of the hackathon organized by Uttarakhand Police last year.”

“In the last two years, Uttarakhand Cyber Police have done commendable work and now it is committed to finding innovative technological solutions which will act as a benchmark and shape smart policing. This year we will have the participation of industry experts along with the students. I extend my best wishes to all the participants,” added the DGP.

IIT Roorkee director Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi said that Devbhoomi Cyber Hackathon 2.0 is the way forward for smart policing as it will take up the challenge to identify and track criminals who exploit vulnerabilities in cybersecurity.
