NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday summoned West Bengal Trinamool Congress leader Anubarta Mondal in connection with the Birbhum post-poll violence case.

According to CBI sources, the agency summoned Mondal on Tuesday. He was also summoned in connection with the cattle smuggling case on May 27, the source added.

The CBI has already questioned Mondal once in connection with the cattle smuggling case last Wednesday.

The agency registered a case of post-poll violence in the state last year after the orders of the Calcutta High Court.

Following the victory of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress in Bengal in May last year, widespread violence was reported across the state.

The Trinamool activists and miscreants had allegedly targeted the BJP workers, their family members, and party supporters. The BJP leaders had moved Calcutta High Court against it to seek justice.
