NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has declared Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla Amanatullah Khan as a bad character, according to official documents.
Khan, who was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday for clashes that erupted in the Madanpur Khadar area in south east Delhi during the anti-encroachment drive, has been declared bad character on March 30 this year.
He was granted bail later in the afternoon.
As per the documents, a request for declaring the AAP leader as a bad character was submitted on March 28 by the Jamia Nagar police station.
In the proposal, it was alleged that Khan, a dropout of the Jamia Millia Islamia University but did not complete his degree.
The police proposal said that Khan started his business at Jamia Nagar and soon made a group consisting of persons from his village and neighbouring villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district and indulged in land grabbing and illegal constructions.
“He created terror in general. A total of 18 cases have been registered against him in different police stations across Delhi. Most are related to intimidation, threatening, hurt, riots causing hindrance duties of public servants and causing enmities between two groups or communities,” it said.
It further said that “it is clear he has become a habitual and desperate criminal of the area and has no respect for law and has been repeatedly indulging in serious criminal activities”.
On Thursday night, South East Deputy Police Commissioner Esha Pandey said that Khan along with five other supporters were arrested for rioting and obstructing public servants in discharging their duty.
