CBI Raids 40 Locations In FCRA Violation By NGOs

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday carried out searches at more than 40 locations across the country on the premises of middlemen and public servants in connection with the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) violation by NGOs.

“The CBI is carrying out search operation across the country at over 40 locations in connection with the FCRA violation case by several NGOs,” a CBI source privy to the development told The New Indian.

The source said that the agency launched the searches on inputs received from the Union Ministry of Home affairs, adding that raids were conducted in Delhi, Rajasthan, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore.

“The premises of middlemen, public servants are being searched for violation of FCRA provisions and facilitating illegal clearance of FCRA matters in lieu of bribes,” he revealed.

During the searches, the CBI caught a “few people” red handed while exchanging bribes including public servants, the source said. “Transactions of Rs 2 crore have also been found,” he stated.
