India, Bhutan Discuss Hydropower & Trade Cooperation During EAM’s Visit

NEW DELHI: India and Bhutan discussed cooperation in the areas of hydropower, connectivity, trade, space, and health during External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s visit to the Himalayan nation.

During his visit, Dr Jaishankar also called on Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Friday. His visit was first by any high-level foreign dignitary to Bhutan since the outbreak of COVID-19.

“Privileged to be received by His Majesty the King of Bhutan.  His vision of transforming Bhutan shapes the direction of our unique partnership,” the EAM said after the meeting.

The external affairs minister and his Bhutanese counterpart Tandi Dorji inaugurated two India-financed road projects Chubachu-Jungzhina four-lane road and Bajo-Khuruthang secondary highway. They also unveiled a bus terminal in Bumthang.

Dr Jaishankar also called on Prime Minister Lotay Tshering and discussed regional and regional developments.

“Exchanged views on current global and regional developments that impact us all. Apprised him for the progress in our bilateral cooperation, including our development partnership,” the EAM tweeted after the meeting.
